Portraits

While still in art school, I was drawn to portraiture – inspired by many of my favorite artists: Egon Schiele, Leonardo da Vinci, Matisse. Morisot, 30+ years later, I find myself painting portraits again. It has been a challenging reunion. Striving again for da Vinci’s ambitious goal: “to portray with convincing emotion.” In the late 1480’s and 1490’s, his experimental anatomical research led him to believe that the seat of the soul lay at the center of the skull cavity. The portraits below are recent with the exceptions of Marquez and Georgia.
