I am obsessed with birds – their beaks, their eyes, their tails, and especially their remarkably beautiful and subtle coloration – plump black-capped chicadees, delicate song sparrows, common black ravens, graceful gray mourning doves. They often serve as tests for trying different materials, glazes, and firing methods – pale high-fired celadons, raku-fired underglazes, no glaze, cast glass. All provide unexpected pleasures and new ideas.
